Zafran Cricket Club – Qatar

Zafran Cricket Club-Qatar (ZCCQ), is the first registered Kashmiri cricket club in Qatar playing under the aegis of Qatar Cricket Association.

It was set in 2014, at Corniche Doha, by a group of friends and cricket enthusiasts, with the objective of uniting and inspiring Kashmiri diaspora in Qatar through cricket.

With the primary aim of community building through cricket, the club serves as a platform to sports enthusiasts and attracts many Kashmiri cricket aficionados to this unique game, despite being miles away from home.

Today, the club has two cricket teams, Zafran XI and Wular XI playing under its umbrella. 

Few cricket stars in Qatar

Syed Mubashir: An off-spinner from Zafran, with plenty of variation and great amount of artistry. Mubashir, popularly known as Mubi among Kashmir Cricket Fraternity Qatar (KCFQ), started playing cricket with Royal11 cricket club Kalashpora, Srinagar and took part in many domestic local leagues back in Kashmir.

He has been recognized for winning some nail biting matches for his team Royal 11 and eventually rose to lead the team for three years.

In 2019 after moving to Qatar, Mubashir joined Zafran Club (ZCCQ), one of the prominent Cricket teams, representing and promoting Kashmiri Cricket talent at international platform.

He has been honored with many player of the match titles for his splendid bowling performances during his association with ZCCQ. Mubashir was among the top wicket takers with best economy in Wadi-e-Kashmir Cup (WEKC) Edition I and Edition II. We wish Mubashir to continue his brilliant form and looking forward to see many more match winning performances from him in the upcoming QCA 2022 league.

Bilal Bashir: Young pace sensation from Zafran Cricket Club, who grabs everyone’s eyeballs watching him play! He was among one of the youngsters who built a hard ball team in his native village of Central Kashmir.

Bilal eventually become the captain of Dadaompora Youngsters and lead them from the front and earned them many trophies. He tested his skills in some of of the famous central Kashmir Cricket grounds, such as Wathora, Nowporas and Ranger, before moving to Qatar.

In 2018, Bilal joined Zafran Cricket Club, and is recognized as one of the top emerging fast-bowling sensation from Kashmiri community in Qatar. We wish Bilal best of luck and great success in the upcoming and most awaited 2022 QCA league.

Dr. Suhail Yakub: A Cricket legend, who has been instrumental in introducing the brand of cricket to Kashmiris in Qatar and making cricket the craze it is today within the community!

The legendary Kashmiri Cricketer has the honor of introducing many incredibly talented Kashmiris with Cricket in Qatar. He has lead many prominent cricket teams in Qatar, including PCA, Qatar United and more recently Shapoorji Dragons.

For the exclusive Kashmiri tournaments, his team plays under the avatar QASHMIR NIGHTS. Qashmir Knights under Dr. Suhail’s leadership were the inaugural champions of first edition of Wadi-e-Kashmir Cup (WEKC Edition I), organized by ZAFRAN!

Talking about the cricketing talent, Dr. Suhail is one of the finest all-rounders of the game from Kashmiri diaspora in Qatar. He is the maverick who can turn any matches around with bat and ball on his day.

Dr. Suhail is also a certified ICC Level 2 Coach and a Level 1 Umpire. He has had honor of being the coach of team Flying Oryx, which participated in the first ever international T-10 cricket tournament in Qatar in 2019. He has also been involved in the coaching of the National U16 and U19 teams of Qatar, in addition to being actively involved in the School Cricket Coaching programs. Dr. Suhail is a pillar of glittering brilliance, the only one from Kashmir Diaspora in Qatar who refuses to wither with age.

Asad Alam: One of the great left-arm seam all-rounders in business from ZCCQ! Asad is playing under Zafran Club (ZCCQ) for over 4 years now and has been key to Zafran’s resurgence as on of the top cricket teams, representing Kashmir in QCA and other top tournaments in Qatar.

Asad is known for his explosive batting in the death overs, in addition to his left-arm seam bowling that can surprise any team on the day. He continues his excellent form and had a wonder season with both bat and ball in on-going Wadi-e-Kashmir Cup Edition II (WEKC Edition II). As per Asad, Cricket has been always his first love and passion.

Zafran Cricket Club Qatar

He started playing with local cricket clubs back at home in Bihar, India. Later on, he got a chance to represent his district at inter-district championships, during his college days, where he proved his skills and earned the much fame for his explosive bating style.

In 2015, Asad moved to Qatar and continued his favorite sport on and off. In 2018, Asad finally got entry to Zafran Cricket Club (ZCCQ), the first QCA registered Kashmiri Cricket club, representing and promoting Kashmiri Cricket talent in Qatar. We wish Asad best of luck with upcoming assignments!
